Love and Justice for Planet Earth
Sunday, May 5, 2024, 10:10 AM
In our Prayers of the People on Sunday, we pray: “For the just and proper use of your creation,” and “Give us all a reverence for the earth as your own creation, that we may use its resources rightly in the service of others and to your honor and glory.” But in the Litany of Penitence which we pray on Ash Wednesday, we confess our failure to practice what we pray for, repenting “our waste and pollution of [God’s] creation, and our lack of concern for those who come after us.”
At Church of the Redeemer, the Creation Care team has been committed to bringing awareness of how we can do our part, as individuals and as church, to protect our planet as God intended for us to do as faithful stewards of God’s creation. In this four-week series, team members will offer practical and approachable suggestions on how we can incorporate creation care into our daily life. Classes will also touch on the theological basis for creation care, and how we are called to live out God’s love and justice, not just for humanity, but for all of Planet Earth. Please RSVP here
The forum, which is the final series of the program year, takes place in the Parlor at 10:00 am and on ZOOM, with the following schedule:
April 21: Four Rs and a T: The theology of Creation Care, and the practice of “reduce, reuse, refill, recycle,” with a special presentation by The Cincinnati Recycling and Reuse Hub.
April 28: Reuse and Swap Event: Do your part in resource conservation by bringing items for loving reuse by others.
May 5: The Art and Spirituality of Composting and Gardening for Pollinators: Learn how Redeemer contributes to creation care by composting, and join a church tour of the pollinator garden.
May 12: Resource Conservation at Home and at Church: Find out what is being done to promote conservation and environmental sustainability, with suggestions on sustainable living at home.
May 19: Creation Care and Environmental Justice: An introduction to the relationship between environmental policy and social justice, including how communities here and across our country have faced environmental injustices, bearing the brunt of toxic pollution, enduring underinvestment in infrastructure and critical services, and suffering disproportionate impacts from climate change. We’ll also welcome Keenan Beauchamp for a discussion on how our work with People Working Cooperatively intersects with environmental justice.
