Cosmic Church, Cosmic Community, Cosmic Hope
Sunday, September 22, 2024, 10:05 AM
As we conclude the series "Cosmic Church, Cosmic Community, Cosmic Hope," we must ask ourselves, How is the Church of the Redeemer living into such ideas of Church, Community, and Hope? Join us this week as we explore the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer and its role in God's ultimate mission of reconciliation and transformation, particularly in light of our vision statement and Baptismal Covenant. Don’t worry if you have missed our discussions thus far. The series is designed for anyone to jump in at any time.
Join us in the Parlor on Sundays at 10:05 am or on ZOOM as the programming year begins with focusing on the Church and its identity and meaning. We hope that a better understanding of who we are and who God wills us to be will translate into a transformed Church that gives life and participates faithfully in God’s plan for a new creation. Come and check out this exciting series as we move towards becoming a better, transformed Church! What is the Church? When asked this question, most imaginations rarely extend beyond ideas of the Church as a hierarchic institution or localized communities. This series will look at the identity of the Church at a deeper level, one that, like our God of the cosmos, is not bound by space or time. Its function is divinely bestowed, its trajectory is supernatural, and its mission is to participate in God’s cosmic plan to reconcile all creation to Godself. Such a view of the Church raises several vital questions. What does the Cosmic Church's engagement with the world look like? Is the idea of the cosmic Church useful for imagining the Church in the world today? Does today’s Church reflect its cosmic importance? This series features two of CoR’s own: Dr. Angela Erisman, Hebrew Bible scholar and the author of The Wilderness Itineraries: Genre, Geography, and Growth of Torah, and Dr. Matthew Solomon, New Testament scholar. Dr. Solomon is an expert in New Testament Textual Criticism, Papyrology, Early Christianity, and Interpretive Methods.
