Creating Intergenerational Experiences for People with Dementia

6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Great Hall
As part of Church of the Redeemer’s Dementia Inclusive Cincinnati Initiative, we are pleased to offer Creating Intergenerational Experiences for People with Dementia on Tuesday, March 3 at 6:30 pm in the Great Hall. Our presenter is Kathy Farfsing, M.Ed, CDP, Xavier University Montessori Dementia Program Director & Adjunct Faculty.
Eyes light up and hearts open when the generations mix! There are ways to optimize these experiences, so elders are interacting with younger people and not simply watching them work or play. We will share methods and examples of what works and what to avoid to continue to support and encourage meaningful intergenerational connections while living with dementia.
Kathy Farfsing has over 30 years of experience as an educator, teaching children and adults. She also has extensive experience developing high fidelity Montessori programs, including with older adults living with dementia. Through this work it was revealed that Montessori interventions engaged persons living with dementia and promoted their sense of personhood. Thus showing the potential of the Montessori philosophy to transform the quality of life of older adults with dementia and, in turn, their caregivers.
There is no cost for this event and childcare can be available if needed. Please contact Becca Morehous, Health & Wellness Minister, should you require childcare or with any questions.
