As part of Church of the Redeemer’s Dementia Inclusive Cincinnati Initiative, we are pleased to offer Dealing with Isolation – Ways of Creating a Sense of Community on Thursday, March 5 at 11:30 pm in the Great Hall (Lunch Provided). Our presenter is Kathy Farfsing, M.Ed., CDP, Xavier University Montessori Dementia Program Director & Adjunct Faculty.
Loneliness and isolation contribute to declining health, physical and mental. Building community is important and possible, even in the face of dementia. This session will support caregivers, families, and the wider community to learn methods to help support a sense of belonging and building meaningful relationships.
Kathy Farfsing has over 30 years of experience as an educator, teaching children and adults. She also has extensive experience developing high fidelity Montessori programs, including with older adults living with dementia. Through this work it was revealed that Montessori interventions engaged persons living with dementia and promoted their sense of personhood. Thus showing the potential of the Montessori philosophy to transform the quality of life of older adults with dementia and, in turn, their caregivers.
