Did You Know about IHN?
DID YOU KNOW . . . that before the pandemic, Church of the Redeemer used our lower level to host emergency overnight housing and meals through the Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN)? As both we and IHN turned our post-pandemic focus to longer-term housing solutions for families in transition from homelessness to stable permanent housing, we have embarked on a project to repurpose the lower level for much needed youth ministries and education space.
Knox Presbyterian Church has continued to host families using the old model. As we also experienced toward the end of our hosting days, they've found themselves in need of additional volunteers to stay overnight, prepare meals, and be with the families being served and hosted in their church facilities. Thus, they have recently reached out to us at Church of the Redeemer for help.
If you are interested in assisting our neighbors at Knox with this ministry, contact Maggie Shreve at Knox via e-mail at [email protected] or on her cell phone: 312-730-0041. Maggie is the IHN coordinator at Knox and can answer any questions you may have as well as give you sign up instructions.
The next hosting period at Knox is Sunday, December 1, 2024, through Sunday, December 8, 2024.
The Rev. Gary Lubin is also available to answer any questions you may have about time commitment and responsibilities. Deacon Gary, along with his late wife Janice, were instrumental in establishing this ministry. You may reach him via email at [email protected].
