El Hogar Medical Mission 2019 - Day 4
Day 4 is where we really hit our stride. With a system and flow in place, we were able to be efficient and effective and have a little fun too. In total, we saw about 60 kids today!
The children are really warming up to us, and one little boy took us on a tour of the grounds and showed us the gardens, naming every plant and tree that they have here. Some of his favorites are mangoes, cilantro, passion fruit, and aloe vera. He even described how some little plants were “children” of the “mother” and “father” plants, which they nursed in empty glass Coke bottles, until they were ready to be planted.
The mothers of some of the students are also present on campus helping with sweeping, mopping, and washing dishes and clothes by hand. It is a great symbol to us of collective community effort to educate and care for the children. It really does take a village!
Grace & Peace,
Melanie
