El Hogar Medical Mission - Day 6
On Wednesday, day 6, we were back at the primary school where we did annual exams with students and their mothers, along with a few siblings. The cute little baby brother of one student was a delight to play peek-a-boo with as they waited in line for an eye exam.
At recess, one little girl fell and skinned her knee and Dr. Kevin treated the boo boo with expert care (Kevin is a vascular surgeon.) Lol.
The Rev. Maggie Foote has been an invaluable member of our team, being the only one fluent en Español. I, on the other hand, am becoming exceedingly proficient at the phrase “Quitase los zapatos, por favor.” I also told a teenage boy that I loved his brain, while attempting to compliment his new haircut.
Lesson for the day: Love needs no translation, but medical teams certainly do.
Grace & Peace,
Melanie
El Hogar Medical Mission Trip
The Annual El Hogar Medical Mission Team from the U.S. and Canada is in Honduras this week (February 15-22). The Rev. Melanie W. J. Slane, Redeemer's Associate for Liturgy and Mission, has agreed to blog and send pictures to document the team's experience. This is Melanie's first trip to El Hogar.
Be sure to read her blog posts, as well.
