Good Friday Proper Liturgy
Wednesday, March 1, 2023, 12:37 PM
Good Friday will be observed with Proper Liturgy at 7:00 pm in-person and online.
The traditional Good Friday liturgy is held at 7pm. This stark, powerful service includes another reading of the Passion Narrative, a ceremony of hammering nails into a cross, and an extended period of prayer.
During Holy Week at Redeemer, special envelopes are provided for contributions to the Good Friday Offering. Since 1922, the Episcopal Church has collected this offering to be sent to the Episcopal Church in Jerusalem and the Middle East, symbolizing unity with and passionate concern for the Church there. The Province of the Episcopal Church in Jerusalem and the Middle East covers an enormous area the whole southern Mediterranean coast from Algeria to Lebanon and Syria, and down the Persian Gulf and the Horn of Africa.
Support received through the Good Friday offering translates into operating funds for hospitals, schools, orphanages, and many other ministries which benefit all people in the province – Christian, Jewish and Muslim alike. This has helped Christians maintain a peacemaking and stabilizing presence in the region for all. Checks may be made out to “The Church of the Redeemer” with “Good Friday Offering” in the memo.
