Holy Week at Church of the Redeemer - Part 4
The celebration of Easter begins at sundown on Saturday. The central service of the Christian year, the Great Vigil of Easter will begin in darkness at 8pm. This service leads us from death to life with Christ through fire, word, water, and bread and wine. A new fire is kindled, a great candle is lighted. By this light the Bible is read, prayer and praise are offered and the sacrament of baptism is observed. The Resurrection of Jesus is loudly proclaimed, and Alleluias ring forth as the first Eucharist of Easter is celebrated. We call I the Paschal mystery, this participation in the saving grace of God that is embodied in Jesus and his miraculous resurrection.
The celebration of that life-changing mystery continues on Easter Sunday with three worship services. We will have a sunrise Rite I Eucharist on the front steps of Redeemer at 7am. At 9am the festivities will include a Rite II choral eucharist with brass quartet. And we will conclude our Easter celebration with our Banquet service at 11am. There will be an Easter Egg Hunt on our front lawn at 10:30, so come early or stay late and join in the fun!
It is our hope that you will make time to observe Holy Week this year, to make it a part of your yearly rhythm, to allow it to transform you as you locate yourself in the story of Jesus’ passion, death, and resurrection.
