Landscape Changes
Over the past year, Church of the Redeemer lost three trees from the church’s grounds. Two on the Raymar Drive side of the building and one inside the Cloister garden. After such significant losses, our Lay Weeder ministry turned to the landscape architect of our Cloister garden, Sharon Floro, to assess the spaces and recommend appropriate replacements.
Lay Weeder ministry chair, Christy Borneman and her team (David Haffner, Tom Harmon, Jeff Brokamp, and Mike Krug) met with Sharon and walked the grounds. Having so enjoyed working with Church of the Redeemer in the past and appreciative of the work we do in our community, Sharon offered to develop an overall plan for the grounds free of charge. The plan, which emphasized color in plants, grasses, and shrubs, inspired the team to seek bids for the work.
Ideally, the Lay Weeders wanted to begin the work last fall, but because this was not a budgeted expense in 2020, they initially determined the work would need to wait to see if there was room for it in this year’s budget. However, they were soon pleasantly surprised by an anonymous donation for the full amount of the project and thus plan to begin the work as soon as the contractors were available.
You may have seen this work being done last fall, but we all see the benefit of this generous gift this spring, as the plants begin to grow and beautifully reflect the vibrancy and joy of our worshiping community.
