Join us on Sundays during Lent (Feb. 26-April 2) for a six-week series on Faith and Sexuality. We will be running this series in collaboration with the youth ministry at Trinity Episcopal Church in Covington, KY. These conversations will also tie into our understanding of faith through an Episcopal lens, serving as an opportunity to fulfill confirmation requirements for students looking to be confirmed.
Our gathering will happen from 5:30pm-8pm at Trinity Episcopal Church and will include dinner! If participating,
please register so we have enough supplies for those attending.
More information about the study:
This Lent, Church of the Redeemer and Trinity Church are offering Faith and Sexuality, a comprehensive sexual education program designed for youth in grades 6-12. Based on These Are our Bodies, a curriculum developed by Church Publishing, our program will be rooted in Anglican theology and ethics, especially our belief that we are all loved and made in the image of God.
While talking about sex with teenagers can sometimes be difficult or uncomfortable, we believe that the church has a responsibility to help our young people develop healthy and spiritually-centered attitudes toward sexuality and the human body. Especially so when much damage has been perpetrated by the larger Church in the realm of sexuality, gender identity and expression, and deliberate hate and harm of our LGBTQIA friends.
Faith and Sexuality will offer older adolescents an opportunity to explore their thoughts and feelings about human sexuality within the context of the Christian faith. Adult mentors will model relationship skills such as listening, empathy, and problem-solving as they explore topics and answer questions in an open and healthy atmosphere.
Discussion topics will include love and relationships, body image, Christian values and decision-making, sexual harassment and consent, pornography, and what it means to be made in the image of God. Because we believe parents and other caregivers should be the primary sexuality educators, they will have an integral part in this program and will be invited to participate both at church and at home. To help you answer your child’s questions, we will provide additional resources including listening tips and information about sexuality from a faith perspective.
As always, but especially so with the sensitivity of this topic, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Tym House, Minister for Youth & Young Adults.
