Prayer during Advent
Last year at Advent, we introduced Presiding Bishop Michael Curry’s rule of life for the Episcopal Church, The Way of Love. We looked at the seven (7) Practices for Jesus-Centered Life and considered how we might live into them. This Advent we begin some practices at Church of the Redeemer to guide our community to grow more centered in Jesus and share his loving, liberating, life-giving way in the world.
- TURN Pause, listen, and choose to follow Jesus
- LEARN Reflect on Scripture each day, especially Jesus’ life and teachings
- PRAY Dwell intentionally with God each day
- WORSHIP Gather in community weekly to thank, praise, and draw near to God
- BLESS Share faith and unselfishly give and serve
- GO Cross boundaries, listen deeply, and live like Jesus
- REST Receive the gift of God’s grace, peace, and restoration
The Way of Love Advent Calendar is a great way to begin to incorporate these practices into your life. You may click here for a pdf version or pick up a hard copy in the narthex. Excerpts will also be available through our Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts throughout Advent.
We will continue our five (5) weekly Holy Eucharists: Sundays at 8:00 am, 10:00 am (2), 5:00 pm, and Wednesdays at 6:00 pm. These will help us all gather in community weekly to thank, praise, and draw near to God.
In December we will introduce Morning Prayer at Redeemer with two (2) weekly services: Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:30 am in the Chapel. These will be ongoing beyond the Season of Advent and become a part of our regular worship schedule. During Advent, we will also add Noonday Prayer services: Mondays and Fridays at 12:00 pm in the Chapel. These additions will give us all an opportunity to dwell intentionally with God each day.
On Saturdays in Advent we will encourage rest so that we may receive the gift of God’s grace, peace, and restoration. Take a moment to ponder and practice what times of real rest could mean in your life.
Looking forward to the new year, we also plan to incorporate a quarterly Evensong. Watch for more details on this and more upcoming liturgical offerings.
