Second Half Speaker Series: "Brave Space"
Second Half Speaker Series
"Brave Space"
featuring Troy Bronsink
Sunday, October 11
6:00 pm
via Zoom
"There is no such think as a safe space.” How do these words hit you? They might signal a sigh of agreement or a tense reaction of flight, freeze or fight. Troy Bronsink, founder of the Hive and Presbyterian minister, will facilitate an evening discussion on Brave Space, the work it takes to find it, to build it, and to maintain it, and why Brave Space is essential for generative conversations on racism, equity, and collective change. When it comes to conversations about race, our bodies are more inclined toward self preservation, defensiveness and isolation. Many white bodies may have different individual experienced of feeling excluded, while our bodies represent and reinforce exclusion of others without any willfulness on our own. Many bodies of color have experienced such exclusion and are leery of spaces that claim to be “safe” “racially reconciled” “pure” or “enlightened” when it comes to racial inequity. These challenges and others like them require new kinds of brave spaces. To do real work in the outer and social sector, we have to develop an inner capacity to notice racism’s silent reach as well.
We hope you’ll join us Sunday, October 11 at 6:00 pm via Zoom.
