Separation of Church and State: What does it mean for us?
Wednesday, November 8, 2023, 10:52 AM
Martin Luther King, Jr. once said that the church should be the conscience of the state, not its servant. In our highly charged political climate, it’s often not clear what the church’s role should be in the political arena, given the traditional separation of church and state in our nation.
In this adult forum, we will introduce the background for the separation of church and state and discuss the implications for the church, what we are and are not allowed to do politically, and how we can continue to welcome diverse political beliefs while maintaining appropriate political distances.
The topic will serve as precursor to upcoming forums and discussions on contemporary issues, which are currently being planned in response to requests for a resumption of “Rise and Shine”-style discussions at Redeemer.
Join us Sunday, November 19, at 10:10 am in the Parlor.
