Reconcilers will Host a Documentary Viewing and Discussion of the film Traces of the Trade: A Story from the Deep North.
The film, produced and directed by Katrina Browne, explores her family’s ancestral legacy as both Episcopalians, and slave-traders. Katrina and nine of her cousins retrace the Triangle Trade (from Ghana to Cuba to New England) and gain powerful new perspectives on the black/white divide.
The questions they encounter along the way are ones that confront us as individuals and as a Church community: What, concretely, is the legacy of slavery? Who owes who what for the sins of the founders of our country? What history do we inherit as individuals and as citizens? How does Northern complicity change the equation? What would repair—spiritual and material—really look like and what would it take?

After viewing the film, Redeemer Parishioners will have a chance to confront these questions together in Community as we move more deeply into our work of Becoming Beloved Community
