Station 1: Jesus is condemned
Start at Station #1: Window with view of baptismal font (Raymar facing)
Before you begin your journey, pray this prayer:
Dear Jesus, help us to walk in your steps today as we remember the sacrifice you made for us on the cross. Now as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say: Our Father, who art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil, for Thine is the Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Prayer
Reader: We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you.
All: Because by your holy cross, you have redeemed the world.
Reading
Jesus stands quietly in front of Pilate, the Roman Governor. People seem angry with him. Why? What has he done? I remember Jesus as good and kind. Why are all these people yelling, “Crucify him?” Pilate takes a small bowl of water and washes his hands. I wonder why he does that?
Activity on the Church Grounds
For families: Find the baptismal font in the window. This is where we will begin our journey. Baptism can be like the start of a journey, too. I wonder if you remember being baptized or who was there with you. Our baptismal vows call us to follow Jesus, especially to seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving our neighbor as ourselves; to strive for justice and peace among all people; and to respect the dignity of every human being. It’s a lot to ask, but Jesus was asked to do so much for us.
For adults: Almighty God, whose most dear Son went not up to joy but first he suffered pain, and entered not into glory before he was crucified: Mercifully grant that we, walking in the way of the cross, may find it none other than the way of life and peace; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord. Amen.
Activity at Home
For all: Read Jesus is condemned to death from Earnest Illustrations by Joe Mitchell and Earnest Graham.
