Station 13: Jesus is taken down from the cross
Find Station #13: Stained glass view outside oratory
Prayer
Reader: We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you.
All: Because by your holy cross, you have redeemed the world.
Reading
It’s been a long time now, but it is over. Some of Jesus’s friends take his body down from the cross. They let Mary, his mother, hold him. I wonder if she remembers holding him when he was a baby. Everyone is very sad, but we have to move his body away before sundown. It is the law.
Activity on the Church Grounds
For families: Look for the stained glass window showing the scene here. We know that the life of Jesus is not truly over, but his friends and family did not. How do we feel when we lose someone or something we love?
For adults: Lord Jesus Christ, by your death you took away the sting of death: Grant to us your servants so to follow in faith where you have led the way, that we may at length fall asleep peacefully in you and wake up in your likeness; for your tender mercies’ sake. Amen.
Activity at Home
For all: Read The body of Jesus is placed in the arms of his mother from Earnest Illustrations by Sam Faeth and Earnest Graham.
