Normal vs Not Normal Aging & Communication as Dementia Progresses

Shannon Braun, Director of ERS’s Center for Memory Support & Inclusion will discuss the definition of dementia, the diseases that contribute to it, and the stages of cognitive decline. We will go over the difference between normal aging and dementia, and how changes in language and sequencing can impact a person’s ability to communicate as dementia progresses. We will then discuss what strategies we can employ to improve our own communication with those who have dementia and facilitate a more positive interaction.
