Church of the Redeemer
Second Half of Life
Those of us at Church of the Redeemer who find ourselves in the “Second Half of Life,” come together for monthly program offerings (e.g. speakers, outings, dinners, movie nights). While some Second Half events are particularly relevant to older parishioners, all are welcome. Our hope is to make “Second Half” a big umbrella, including everything from retirement or second career, to empty nesting, to other transitions, including where we live, what we do, and who we spend time with as life circumstances and priorities change.
By gathering “Second Half” folks together, our goals are to have fun, explore opportunities, discover points of common interest, and make new connections with our parish family. If you believe Second Half is for you, don’t hesitate to join us for any of our events. For more information, or to be added to our monthly emails, contact Dawn Neely.

Join us on Friday, April 24 at 6:30 pm, the movie will start at 7:00 pm.
Parishioners are inviting us to their home theater that can accommodate 30 people, so please RSVP below to easily register (and receive a confirmation email) since we’ll cap this event at 30 people. The event location remains the same as previous Second Half Movie Nights and will be emailed to registered people. Our host will provide popcorn and participants should bring their own drinks. The movie, which we’ll discuss afterwards, will be The Friend starring Bill Murray and Naomi Watts.
Novelist and creative writing teacher Iris (Naomi Watts) finds her comfortable, solitary New York life thrown into disarray after her closest friend and mentor (Bill Murray) commits suicide and bequeaths his beloved Great Dane to her. The regal yet intractable beast, named Apollo, immediately creates problems for Iris, from furniture destruction to eviction notices, as well as more existential ones, his looming presence constantly reminding her of her friend’s choice to take his own life. Yet as Iris finds herself unexpectedly bonding to the animal, she begins to come to terms with her past, her lost friend, and her own creative inner life.

We welcome our very own Mike Hardy to present “A Kenyan Safari – it’s much more than amazing animals!” In addition, our special guests will be fellow parishioners Wendy and Peter Twycross who spoke to us in May 2025 about their missionary work in Kenya. Beautiful pictures and videos will augment the stories they will share with us. Feel free to bring finger food to share and your own drinks at 6:30PM in the Great Hall. Mike’s story will start around 7:15PM in the parlor.
This program will also be offered via Zoom via the link here.
