Life Transformed: The Way of Love in Lent
God's people prayed throughout their exodus from slavery in Egypt. The Israelites cried out to God. Moses cried out on behalf of the people. Miriam gave thanks with tambourines and dance. In this episode we look at the different ways we pray.

Proclaiming Suffering, Proclaiming Joy
The goal is for us to have a deeper, fuller sense of the whole human experience. In Jesus, the Word of God became flesh and dwelt among us. This was an act of honoring and loving humanity in its fullness. God did not merely dress up in human disguise or manifest as a human for a day or two. In Jesus we see God living a human life, which means we see divinity in the broad spectrum of our feelings, in our suffering and joy, in our exuberance and annoyance.

United, Growing, Inspired, Sent
It's been an amazing and an incredibly difficult time for the leaders of this church; for the staff, for the clergy, and for all those in lay ministry; to seek ways to understand how we can fully keep you connected. Because here's what I have realized during this time; when I say, why does this church even matter to me, what I realize is what I want to know and what I think most of you want to know in this difficult time about your church is, how do we stay connected to one another and how do we continue to make a difference in this world. How are we connected? And how do we make a difference? Because in our bones we know that we want to make a difference in this world. And we are hardwired for connection as people. It is built into us, interdependence, belonging to one another. We are not rocks and islands and all by ourselves. We may be individuals, but we are individuals who are built for belonging and connection.

Life Transformed: The Way of Love in Lent
As Christians we are continually called to repent and be renewed in faith. This episode introduces the Way of Love and invites us to reflect on themes of repentance in the new life we have in Christ through baptism.
"In this language sin is something that has a hold over you and the wages of sin, as Paul says elsewhere in Romans, is death, which is to say the cost of your enslavement to sin is death. So, the Christian response, instead of saying, well then let's save you from death, is, well then let's get the death part over with. Let's do the death thing and now you're dead to sin, so the baptism becomes a liberation event rather than a cleansing event." ~ the Rev. Philip DeVaul

A Vision of Beloved Community
| The Rev. Philip DeVaul![The Rev. Philip DeVaul](https://www.redeemer-cincy.org/uploads/images/philip-devaul_215_small.jpg)
A Vision of Beloved Community
Pandemic or no, we as a church can allow times and seasons and years to blend together. We can forget why we exist, forget that church isn’t just a thing that we do or even just a group to which we belong. God gathered us together. God forged this community. God put you and I – all of us – together, and God did this with great purpose. We exist to know Jesus and grow in love. We are united in order that we might grow, be inspired, and then sent into our neighbor’s lives – rolling up our sleeves and participating with God in the healing and reparation of the world.

Unexpected Moments of Grace
So much of this timing is beyond our control and what we can control frequently has demanded patience and perseverance. It’s going on a year now. The timing of this pandemic has been a stretch, a real stretch, that continues. But this pandemic time, this more fallow time for many, has also revealed unexpected moments of grace.

Proclaiming the Dream
| The Rev. Philip DeVaul![The Rev. Philip DeVaul](https://www.redeemer-cincy.org/uploads/images/philip-devaul_215_small.jpg)
Proclaiming the Dream
The truth of the Gospel is that we are loved as we are right now. And we don’t believe this. And we don’t act like it. During Lent we set aside a time to examine and be honest about the disconnect between what we proclaim in our church and how we live our day to day lives. But the point of repentance is not shame. The point of repentance is to turn towards the God who loves us so we can remember ourselves. Lent is not about feeling bad or indulging in shame. Lent is about moving away from the things that keep us from knowing Jesus and growing in Love. At Church of the Redeemer, Lent is about moving towards the vision we have of Becoming Beloved Community.

A Present Mystery
| The Rev. Philip DeVaul![The Rev. Philip DeVaul](https://www.redeemer-cincy.org/uploads/images/philip-devaul_215_small.jpg)
A Present Mystery
Mark tells the story of a Jesus who shows up preaching repentance and driving demons out of people and healing them of their illness. And that's what he does for the entirety of the gospel. Preaches repentance, drives out demons, and heals the sick. Jesus’ focus in Mark is not on making us smarter. It is on making us aware of the brilliant and beautiful and mysterious and powerful presence of God in the world. There is an immediacy to Jesus in Mark's gospel. There is a desire for Jesus to get going, get moving.
