Church of the Redeemer

Music

From our Celtic ensemble to our children’s choir, from the Banquet ensemble to special musical worship events, music is central to life at Church of the Redeemer! Our Music Ministry groups gather together on Thursday evenings during the program year (September – May) to share a meal and rehearse. Read about our many musical opportunities using the tabs on the sidebar, and for more information about Church of the Redeemer Music Ministry family, contact Dr. L. Brett Scott, Minister for Music.

Every Voice Academy

Reflecting a core parish belief that music builds community, Church of the Redeemer is pleased to offer free musical enrichment and training opportunities for young people from toddler through adult, both to parish members and members of the Greater Cincinnati Community. Built around a model of intergenerational engagement with music, our program currently offers three age-appropriate classes and ensembles, while giving parents and caregivers the opportunity to connect with other adults. A communal supper is offered each week to further strengthen connections between the attending families.

Musical Play for Families

Musical play is a wonderful way for families to connect with their young children. This class, held Thursdays from 5:30 – 6:00 pm at the church, aims to support early musical enrichment in a fun, low-pressure environment suitable for anyone regardless of musical experience or ability. Families with one or more children 5 years old and under are welcome. Led by Kenna Cornish Scott, this class will have room for all to spread out and use their bodies and some rhythm instruments to introduce musical concepts. We’ll also sample songs from a variety of cultures and languages, with a sprinkling of liturgical music to aid little ears in feeling connection to The Episcopal Church tradition.

Join us for some musical enrichment activities, along with wiggling and moving our bodies after a long day! And plan to stay and join others from the Church of the Redeemer Music Ministry for a communal meal following class.

Leaders: Kenna Cornish Scott,  and Krista Cornish Scott.

Jubilate Deo Choir

The choral experience of Jubilate Deo is intended to build on musical literacy skills either introduced in Musical Play, or from other musical enrichment or school experiences. Families with one or more children 5 years old through Grade 5 are welcome to join this class, which meets from 5:15pm-6:00pm. Solfege, music theory and history, as well as the musical traditions of the Episcopalian and Christian heritage are introduced within a framework that allows time for singing but also games and body movement. After a long day of school, this rehearsal aims to be a low key and fun place to sing together.  Jubilate Deo is also a great way to reinforce friendships made at Redeemer and another chance for the kids to interact, but also for parents to have social time in the Great Hall before dinner. This is a drop-off program, but parents are warmly invited to stay and connect and stay for the communal dinner with family even if not in one of the musical programs.

Each year, Jubilate Deo performs several times during Redeemer services.  On a Sunday where they perform, typically they will sing at the 9 am service during the Offertory or Communion, then stay and sing at the start of the 11 am service. The tentative dates for these services are Sunday, March 14 and Sunday May 3.  Jubilate Deo also participates in the Advent Lessons and Carols (Sunday, December 14, 5pm)

Leaders: Meredith Nguyen

Cantate

Members of Cantate sing age-appropriate, challenging, and exciting repertoire, gain musical literacy skills, learn vocal technique, and build community through high-level music making. Cantate is a welcoming and fun group for kids who want to grow as musicians as well as members of our Redeemer community.
