Summer Throwback: A Different Level of Compassion
| Anny Stevens-GleasonSummer Throwback: A Different Level of Compassion
We continue this summer’s throwback episodes featuring monthly looks back at some of our favorites. In this episode (from July 2020), Anny Stevens-Gleason takes a look at Church of the Redeemer's long time relationship with Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) in conversations with past champion, Hollis Bass and with more recent volunteers, Sarah and Steve Nord. Hollis shares some history of Church of the Redeemer's involvement as well as what has been our standard set-up. Then Sarah and Steve talk about the effect of volunteering with this ministry has had on them as volunteers. Although the current pandemic may require some long term changes to the IHN structure, the involvement will surely remain as fruitful. As Sarah puts it, volunteering with IHN "gives you a different level of compassion."

Meant for These Times
| The Rev. Philip DeVaulMeant for These Times
You and I were baptized into a life of care for one another and service to our neighbor. Paul says this loving care is how we imitate God. With Christ at our center, with love as our guide, with unity in faith and justice our goal, we grow into the realization of our purpose for being here at all.
We were made for these times; you and I. God has chosen us to love this world here and now.

Thrust Into Uncertainty
| The Rev. Philip DeVaulThrust Into Uncertainty
"The testimony we have before us today and the testimony of our faith is sure and certain and clear and consistent. We hear time and again, as we did today, you will be thrust into places of uncertainty, discomfort, fear, and change. And in all of those places you will find God. You are not alone. We are not alone. We are not left to our own devices right now. In the times of great uncertainty and fear and change God, the God of love, the God of all creation, the God who great gathers all things up into heaven, is with us right now. Sharing life with us. And drawing us into deeper communion and connection with one another."

Summer Throwback: No Such Thing As Secular
| The Rev. Philip DeVaulSummer Throwback: No Such Thing As Secular
Note: As part of our When Love Shows Up Summer Throwback Series we are re-posting this podcast which was originally posted on August 5, 2020.
But in the end, my reason for preaching and teaching the social and political implications of the Gospel is simple: If you are a Christian, Jesus is Lord of every part of your life. No part of you is exempt from belonging to God. No aspect of your existence is separate from your experience of Jesus. If God has incorporated you into the very Body of Christ and you are a member of that Body, you don’t get to tell God to look the other direction while you vote, and you don’t get to pretend that Jesus was going to save your soul without actually effecting the way you think and move and participate in society.

That's A Miracle!
| The Rev. Joyce KeeshinThat's A Miracle!
The presence of Jesus in physical form, physical human form is a continuous miracle throughout the gospels. Jesus’ very being is a miracle, both transcendent and grounded all at once. And the path of love Jesus teaches us and invites us to enable us to bear witness, in our own days, to the miraculous nature of love.

Summer Throwback: I am Thankful for You
| The Rev. Philip DeVaulSummer Throwback: I am Thankful for You
Note: As part of our When Love Shows Up Summer Throwback Series we are re-posting this podcast which was originally posted on November 25, 2020.
Naming gratitude is important because you are actively naming things that have nothing to do with what you have earned or achieved. Think about it. You don’t thank people for giving you things you earned. You thank people when they do things that make you forget about earning. You give thanks for beauty and generosity and forgiveness and kindness and friendship and honesty and faithfulness. That right there is a list of things that you cannot earn or achieve. They are living embodiments of Grace: Gifts of God for the people of God. Gratitude is the antidote to the culture of earning. Gratitude is a recognition of just how much of your daily life is a gift. Gratitude is an acknowledgment of your belonging to God.
